Craniosacral Therapy and Paediatric Osteopathy: Gentle Care for Babies and Children
Osteopathy isn't just for adults dealing with back pain or sports injuries — it can also offer gentle support for babies and children, using a much lighter touch suited to smaller bodies.
What is Craniosacral Therapy? Craniosacral Therapy is a subtle, hands-on technique that uses very light pressure to support the body's natural balance. It's particularly well suited to babies, young children, and anyone who prefers a gentler alternative to more traditional hands-on treatment.
Who offers paediatric care at The Ashfield Practice? Lucy Osborne-Kirby, M.Ost, gained experience in paediatric clinics during her training and offers both general osteopathic assessment and Craniosacral Therapy for children, alongside dedicated Child/Student consultation appointments.
What happens during a children's appointment? As with adult appointments, Lucy will begin with a discussion of your child's history and any specific concerns, followed by a gentle, age-appropriate assessment. Treatment techniques are adapted to be comfortable and suitable for children, using significantly lighter pressure than adult treatment.
When might parents consider osteopathy for their child? Parents often seek osteopathic support for general comfort and wellbeing, postural concerns as children grow, or after bumps and knocks from sport and play. As always, any specific medical concerns should first be discussed with your GP or health visitor.
